Launch Your Career in Industrial Refrigeration Engineering 


We’re seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design, fabrication, and installation of industrial ammonia refrigeration systems. This role offers the chance to work on critical systems used in food processing plants, cold storage facilities, and other industrial environments—while gaining hands-on experience alongside a seasoned team. 


Whether you already have experience with ammonia systems or bring a strong mechanical foundation, we provide the training and mentorship needed to help you develop specialized expertise in this growing field. 


This position blends office-based engineering with hands-on collaboration in the shop and occasional travel to project sites. You’ll play a key role throughout the full project lifecycle—from initial design through startup and commissioning. 

Compensation:

$85,000 - $125,000 DOE


Responsibilities:

  • Design and engineer industrial ammonia refrigeration systems for a variety of applications 
  • Perform load calculations, system sizing, and performance evaluations 
  • Select and specify key equipment, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and vessels 
  • Develop P&IDs, piping layouts, and detailed Bills of Materials 
  • Collaborate with fabrication teams, project managers, and field personnel to ensure project success 
  • Assist with system installation, startup, and commissioning activities 
  • Diagnose and resolve system performance issues, focusing on efficiency and reliability improvements 
  • Ensure all designs and processes meet applicable safety and regulatory standards (IIAR, PSM, RMP)  


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field 
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical system design, refrigeration, or similar industries 
  • Strong knowledge of thermodynamics and heat transfer principles 
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create engineering drawings and P&IDs 
  • Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) 
  • Ammonia refrigeration experience is a plus, but not required 


Experience 

  • Background in industrial refrigeration or HVAC systems 
  • Familiarity with IIAR standards, OSHA PSM, or EPA RMP regulations 
  • RETA certifications (CARO or CIRO) 
  • Exposure to PLCs or industrial control systems
