Contract Mechanical Engineer

Location: Reading,(Hybrid – 3 days on-site)

Contract Type: 6-Month Contract

Pay: £40 per hour (Outside IR35)

About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support a range of ongoing commercial projects at our client’s Reading facility. This is a hands-on design role within a busy engineering team, contributing to the delivery of high-quality mechanical solutions and improvements to existing systems.

What You’ll Do

* Produce accurate drawings, specifications, and layouts using AutoCAD and 3D CAD tools.

* Ensure all designs meet relevant standards while maintaining buildability, practicality, and sustainability.

* Work within the design function to maintain high documentation and quality standards.

* Support the development and improvement of existing process and mechanical systems.

What We’re Looking For

* Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering systems.

* Proficient with AutoCAD and familiar with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks or Inventor).

* Good knowledge of engineering calculations, materials, and manufacturing processes.

* Confident communicator with strong organisational and problem-solving skills.

* Detail-focused, proactive, and able to manage multiple project tasks effectively.

* Comfortable working collaboratively with cross-functional teams and contributing to design reviews.
