Blue Marble Communications is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Mechanical Engineer. This role entails design, analysis, integration, and test of electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical systems, including both space-qualified flight hardware and ground support equipment. The ideal candidate will have first-hand experience with designing ruggedized hardware for space, airborne, or other harsh environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical hardware designs for ruggedized electronics, opto-mechanical assemblies, precision mechanisms, and associated ground support hardware
  • Analyze mechanical robustness of hardware designs versus environmental effects, such as launch vibration and extreme temperatures
  • Develop detailed designs, perform tolerance analysis, and generate fabrication drawings
  • Develop assembly and test procedures, and design associated jigs, tooling, and test fixtures
  • Perform first-article assembly, integration, and qualification testing of electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical systems

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
  • 2-3 years of relevant professional experience in mechanical hardware design, analysis, and test
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks for part and assembly modeling, including creation and release of engineering drawings
  • Experience developing detailed mechanical designs, performing tolerance analysis, and generating fabrication and assembly drawings with working knowledge of GD&T principles and application per ASME Y14.5.
  • Hands-on experience supporting assembly, integration, and testing mechanical or electro-mechanical hardware
  • Familiarity with structural and thermal finite element analysis tools, such as ANSYS or Nastran
  • Exposure to environmental testing activities, including vibration, shock, thermal cycling, and thermal vacuum testing
  • Excellent expository writing and oral presentation skills
  • Must be a US Person (This position has export control and security-related requirements that mandate attention to the citizenship status of any potential candidate and necessitates that the individual either be a United States , Permanent of the United States, or lawfully admitted into the United States as a refugee or granted asylum by the United States Government.)
