Position Summary
i2Systems® is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, and production of advanced LED lighting systems. This role involves ownership of mechanical designs from concept through production, with a strong emphasis on manufacturability, thermal performance, reliability, and documentation. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable working in a fast-paced product development environment, and enjoys collaborating closely with electrical, firmware, and systems engineers.
This is an onsite position in Morris, CT, requiring regular interaction with engineering, manufacturing, and test teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for LED lighting systems, including housings, heat sinks, mounts, and enclosures
- Create and maintain detailed 3D models, drawings, and assemblies using SolidWorks
- Generate complete manufacturing documentation, including drawings, BOMs, tolerances, and revision control
- Support thermal management strategies for high-power LED systems through design and analysis
- Work closely with Electrical, Firmware, and Systems Engineering teams to ensure integrated and robust product designs
- Interface with manufacturing partners to support prototyping, tooling, and production ramp-up
- Evaluate and select materials and manufacturing processes appropriate for performance, cost, and reliability
- Participate in design reviews, failure analysis, and continuous product improvement efforts
- Support testing and validation activities, including environmental, thermal, and mechanical testing
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of experience in a mechanical engineering or product design role
- Strong proficiency with SolidWorks for part, assembly, and drawing creation
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate and controlled documentation
- Experience designing for manufacturability and assembly
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional engineering teams
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
/ Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience with aluminum extrusions and injection-molded plastic parts
- Knowledge of thermal analysis methods and heat transfer principles
- Experience using ANSYS or similar analysis tools
- Background in LED lighting, electronics enclosures, or thermally driven products
- Experience supporting products through full lifecycle, from concept to production
