Job DescriptionJob DescriptionEngineering Manager & Lead Mechanical EngineerFOS Product LinesAbout the RoleThis is a dual-hat leadership and hands-on engineering position. You’ll build, develop, and drive a team of engineers and designers while serving as the lead mechanical engineer on the company’s FOS product lines — from new product design and development through sustaining production. Working across a multidisciplinary team and within established design guidelines, you’ll ensure products meet or exceed customer and industry specifications, and you’ll partner closely with manufacturing and quality to keep existing products running clean and compliant with AS9100 and ISO 9001 standards.What You’ll DoLead and develop the team
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers and designers
- Support hiring, workforce planning, and performance management
- Build a collaborative, accountable culture grounded in continuous improvement
- Define, maintain, and improve the department’s development processes and best practices
- Provide material and labor estimates and technical content for Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
Own the mechanical engineering
- Serve as lead mechanical engineer, accountable for design integrity, product performance, and compliance
- Drive mechanical design decisions across new product development and legacy product support
- Develop and refine designs to internal standards and customer specifications
- Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, and sound engineering principles to ensure manufacturability and performance
- Perform engineering calculations and partner with analysts to validate designs (FEA, thermal, shock/vibration)
- Define and execute design verification strategies (shock, vibration, thermal, acceleration, and more)
- Prepare and present materials for internal and customer design reviews
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry, customer, and regulatory standards
Support production and quality
- Troubleshoot production issues, implement design updates, and improve processes
- Partner with manufacturing and quality teams to resolve nonconformances and drive corrective actions
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree with 9+ years of relevant experience; or a graduate degree with 7+ years; or, in lieu of a degree, 13+ years of relevant experience
- Professional experience with CAD software (Solid Edge, SolidWorks, NX, or similar)
- Professional experience applying and interpreting GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.100
- Professional experience with dimensional stack-up / tolerance analysis
- U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance
Nice to Have
- Strong fundamentals in mechanics, vibration, fatigue, and thermal concepts
- Experience with DFMA and manufacturing processes
- Familiarity with AS9100 / ISO 9001 quality systems and regulated environments
- Experience with FEA tools and test validation methods
- MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- Active Secret security clearance
