About the Role
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design and delivery of components and assemblies within magniX’s electric powertrain products. The Mechanical Engineer will evaluate requirements and use cases to create and iterate detailed CAD models of design options – including structural components, materials selections, assembly processes, and test methods. Additionally, the Mechanical Engineer will be expected to support design documentation development and release, write technical reports, test requirements, and analyze test results.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Apply aerospace standard practices to the detailed design of electric aircraft powertrain assemblies and sub-components, including machined and composite components, material selection, coatings, fasteners, and COTs components.
- Conduct trade studies on design and manufacturing options, identify methods for risk reduction and technology development.
- Produce complete design packages – detailed drawings, analysis reports, BOMs, assembly instructions.
- Conduct reviews of designs, manufacturing plans, and test procedures to ensure compliance with design and performance requirements.
- Coordinate with other departments through hardware delivery and operations (Quality, Sourcing, Manufacturing, Testing, etc.).
- Lead resolution of technical problems, achieving buy-in from cross-functional teams.
- Develop a strong understanding of technical and certification requirements for electric powertrains for aviation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical / Aerospace Engineering.
- 5+ years experience mechanical design. Aviation related experience is a bonus.
- Practical experience using 3D CAD (SOLIDWORKS) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- Strong understanding and experience in the application of GD&T: ASME Y14.5-2009 & ASME Y14.100-2013.
- Technical knowledge and experience with either electric machine design or high voltage traction battery mechanical packaging is advantageous.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong team player, driven to achieve common goals.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
- Proven ability to employ analytical thinking, initiative, and creativity in solving engineering problems.
Compensation
- The salary for this position is $120,000 – $150,000 annually, DOE
