What We Need

DFT is seeking to expand its technical development capability by adding talented individuals in the field of Mechanical Engineering to its staff. The ideal candidate will be energized by a fast-paced work environment, excited by building complex systems, and motivated by having an immediate impact in a challenging environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Research, plan, design and develop mechanical and electro-mechanical fixtures, components, packaging, systems, and customized products
  • Use “SolidWorks” and other design software to; create designs, plan manufacturing feasibility, and enhance features of highly technical products
  • Create blueprints, engineering plans, product specifications, and custom drawings for current and R&D products
  • Create concepts and prototypes using solid models and 3D renderings from verbal or written customer requirements
  • Participate in mechanical department and integrated system design reviews and take corrective action
  • Review, update, and modify design documentation using existing library tools
  • Program machines to ensure production quality and process efficiency
  • Act as a liaison for the machine shop by de-conflicting production schedules, managing resources and tracking on deadlines and deliverables
  • Evaluate and recommend process improvements and cost saving measures
  • Other tasks as assigned

Required Skills/Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience designing products from concept
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in a technology discipline.
  • Familiar with design tools and related software
  • This position may require traveling 10-15% to customer sites
  • Must be able to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Good mechanical aptitude and math skills
  • Basic knowledge of heat transfer and thermodynamic principles
  • Working knowledge of geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)
  • Familiar with military applications and quality standards, i.e. MIL-STD-810,
  • Knowledge of machining and shop best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Has a positive and enthusiastic attitude
  • Encourages open door communication and collaboration
  • Able to problem solve using critical thinking
  • Knowledge of safe work practices
  • Flexible in a fast-paced environment

What We Offer

Salary Range - $100k-$130k

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations.
