Location: Onsite Position in Hamilton OH
The Mechanical Design Engineer works closely with the Engineering team to design mechanical assemblies and components that support new machine development, equipment enhancements, and cost-reduction initiatives. This role requires strong technical design skills, hands-on collaboration with manufacturing teams, and the ability to support customer-specific equipment requirements.
Responsibilities
- Develop a solid understanding of SencorpWhite products, including mechanical functionality and customer applications.
- Design equipment or modify standard machinery to meet customer specifications while maintaining project budgets, schedules, and required deliverables such as BOMs and assembly instructions.
- Support the complete lifecycle of design implementation, including design reviews, assembly support, debugging, and preparation of manual-ready documentation.
- Source commercial components, obtain quotations, and identify cost-effective alternatives.
- Develop equipment specifications, test plans, and technical manuals.
- Apply mechanical engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and material knowledge to create functional, practical, and economical designs.
- Create SolidWorks® models, detailed drawings using GD&T, assemblies, and BOMs.
- Collaborate with assembly teams to review and develop technical documentation.
- Work with Project Management to maintain organized distribution of engineering documentation.
- Mentor engineers on machine design best practices and proper application of GD&T.
- Assist senior engineers in standardizing and documenting engineering workflows.
- Support Production, Purchasing, and Service teams with manufacturing issues, troubleshooting, and assembly methods.
- Work with Sales to define and validate special machine features.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable machine safety standards (OSHA, ISO, etc.); training provided.
Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical Engineering; concentration in Machine Design .
- 5–10 years of equipment engineering experience, including design, detailing, documentation, costing, commercial component specification, and leading design teams.
- Experience working directly with customers on proposals, quotations, statements of work, and budgeting.
- Experience with third-party equipment specification, acceptance, and integration.
- Expertise in 3D solid modeling with experience designing standard and custom machinery.
- Demonstrated knowledge of torque, gear, and load calculations derived from defined machine parameters.
- Required experience with SolidWorks® sheet metal design
- Experience in SolidWorks® simulation (FEA) and motion animation.
