We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer with a specialization in Forensic Investigation to join our dynamic team. This is a permanent position in the construction industry where you will play a critical role in incident investigation and analysis. This role will require a combination of technical expertise, analytical thinking, and strong communication abilities. The person in this role will conduct detailed forensic investigations, primarily vehicle accidents, applying engineering principles to help clients resolve losses and litigation matters. Candidates must be comfortable with occasional day or overnight travel to accident sites. This role suits motivated self-starters who prefer independent work over desk-bound routines and don't mind outdoor fieldwork. If you have a passion for problem-solving, an understanding of materials science, and a knack for investigation, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
Responsibilities:
- Conducting comprehensive forensic investigations into mechanical failures, vehicular incidents, and fire-related incidents in the construction industry.
- Utilizing your expertise in materials science to analyze and understand the causes of various incidents and failures.
- Preparing detailed, accurate reports on your findings for use in legal proceedings and insurance claims.
- Serving as an expert witness in court proceedings, providing clear and concise explanations of complex technical issues to non-technical audiences.
- Collaborating with other professionals within the organization to develop preventative measures and safety protocols based on your investigative findings.
- Providing guidance and mentorship to junior members of the forensic investigation team.
- Staying up to date with the latest advancements and best practices in forensic engineering and materials science.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required, a Master's degree is .
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably within the insurance industry.
- Proven experience in incident investigation and analysis, specifically in investigations from vehicle accident reconstruction, water loss cause of , workplace safety, and/or product liability is .
- Ideally brings in-depth knowledge of materials science and its application in forensic investigation.
- Previous experience serving as an expert witness in legal proceedings is highly desired.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency in using industry-standard tools and software for forensic analysis and investigation.
- ACTAR certification or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple investigations simultaneously.
- A strong commitment to safety and adherence to all relevant industry regulations and standards.
