Job Description

Position Overview:

This role leads and supports mechanical testing projects focused on fatigue and fracture performance of components and materials. The engineer collaborates with technicians and internal stakeholders to design, execute, and analyze tests that simulate real-world failure modes.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and contribute to mechanical testing projects, especially fatigue testing.
  • Develop and document testing procedures and protocols.
  • Design fixtures and plan instrumentation setups (e.g., strain gauges).
  • Analyze test results using statistical methods and prepare technical reports.
  • Coordinate with internal and external suppliers for materials and services.
  • Present findings to stakeholders in meetings and reports.


Typical Work Breakdown:

  • ~75% office-based work, ~25% lab-based testing
  • Daily interaction with engineers, technicians, and project teams
  • Project planning, execution, and reporting


Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical testing or materials engineering


Technical Skills:

Required:

  • Fatigue and fracture mechanics
  • Mechanics of materials (stress-strain, elastic/plastic deformation)
  • Instrumentation: strain gauges, load cells, LVDTs
  • Statistical analysis of fatigue data
  • Technical writing and documentation


Desired:

  • Hydraulic test equipment experience
  • Understanding of material microstructure and machining processes
  • Basic CAD skills (e.g., Creo)
  • Familiarity with project planning tools (e.g., MS Project)
