Job Description
Zachary Daniels are working exclusively retained with Metacarpal to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer based at the Robotarium in Edinburgh.\n\nMetacarpal are a fast developing, multi-award winning R&D company that has developed the world's first mechanical bionic hand.\n\nWhat makes them unique compared to competitors is that they have designed a bionic hand that is entirely powered and controlled through body motion. This means no electronics. This point of difference is a strong asset, as they can offer greater functionality, reliability and robustness at a lower cost and weight.
\n \nPrior to launching their product into production last year, they tested their prototypes with potential customers internationally and received glowing feedback. They have ambitious growth plans to expand quickly across UK, US and then the rest of the world.\n \nReporting directly to the Senior Design Engineer, the successful candidate will be play a significant role in the development, refinement, and scaling of Metacarpal's product ecosystem. This is a hands-on position, working on 360 product projects from inception to product and then post-market improvement.
You will work closely with manufacturing, quality and users to continuously improve performance, reliability, and usability, while designing within a regulated medical-device environment.\n \nThe work at Metacarpal has true meaning, impacting the lives of users, enabling them to complete activities of daily living faster and more effectively than other devices, whilst also boosting their confidence This will be a rewarding and extremely interesting position, with fantastic career prospects.\n \nResponsibilities:\n\nContribute and lead major design projects and sub-assemblies\nTranslate production feedback and real-world user feedback into robust, practical design improvements\n Engage directly with prosthetic users and clinical customers to understand needs and define improvement opportunities\nDesign, document, and maintain products in compliance with ISO 13485 and medical-device best practices\nSupport the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS)\nCollaborate with manufacturing partners to ensure designs are clearly communicated, manufacturable, and consistently produced to specification\nSupport design verification, validation, and testing activities across prototypes and production units\nContribute to forward planning of Metacarpal's product roadmap, ensuring designs consider future , compatibility, and ecosystem growth\nParticipate in supplier engagement and, in time, international travel to support manufacturing and supply-chain development\nExperience Required:\n\nDegree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, or a closely related discipline\nMinimum 2 years' experience in an engineering design role\nExperience designing within a regulated or quality-controlled environment\nProficiency with CAD software - SolidWorks , however not required What is on offer :\n\nCompetitive salary \nShare options - real ownership in the company you are helping to build\nFantastic opportunity for fast career development - significant scope for progression as Metacarpal grows\nThe opportunity to work on truly novel technology with global social impact\n\nPlease note: to be considered, you must have the Right to Work within the UK
