Mechanical Engineer Co-Op

Job DescriptionJob DescriptionResponsibilities may include:

• Providing design support for new and existing products and machines
• Employing CAD including solid modeling, simple surfacing, and drafting primarily in SolidWorks
• Performing analytical evaluation of designs through Finite Element Modeling (FEM) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFO) in SolidWorks and/or FloTHERM
• Performing empirical testing via various means of data acquisition; displacement, vibration, thermal and acoustic measurements along with corresponding computer models and analysis
• Assembling prototypes and test equipment, including design rework
• Managing several tasks across different projects simultaneously
• Contacting vendors and procuring parts, externally as well as from in-house machine shop

General background qualifications Include:

• Student majoring in mechanical engineering, middle/junior/senior level
• Important courses include Mechanical Engineering Design (Machine Design), Mechanical Vibrations and Dynamics, Strength of Materials, Heat Transfer, and Fluid Dynamics
• Previous experience with SolidWorks
• Desire to be challenged by complex and routine tasks, problem solving, and decision making
• Desire to assist in hands-on assembly and testing tasks
• Willingness to learn and contribute as part of a team
