Myers Emergency Power Systems (Myers EPS) launched a new product line, EnerShed, that offers powerful and safe energy storage solutions for the commercial and industrial (C&I) storage and renewables markets. Already a leading designer & manufacturer of highly engineered backup power technology for emergency lighting, traffic, rail, and broadband, Myers' new Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) expands our market into high growth renewables and energy efficiency categories that will enable customers to drive meaningful energy cost savings through clean, renewable energy usage.

The Mechanical Engineer will be based out of our Bethlehem, PA facility and will be responsible for the mechanical design, structural integrity, thermal management, and manufacturability of innovative products in the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market segment. This role focuses on cabinet design, regulatory compliance, thermal performance, structural validation, and design-for-manufacturing from early prototypes through production.

The Mechanical Engineer will work directly with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and external NRTLs to ensure mechanical systems meet performance, safety, regulatory, and seismic requirements while supporting scalable production.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Mechanical Design & Product Development

  • Design improvements and upgrades to our BESS product line.
  • Develop sheet metal enclosures and structural assemblies rated NEMA 3R or better.
  • Create detailed mechanical designs using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Generate and release assembly drawings and documentation for manufacturing.
  • Develop and design custom tooling and fixtures to support production.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.

Structural & Compliance Engineering

  • Ensure cabinet and structural designs comply with applicable regulatory, safety, and seismic standards.
  • Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on component assemblies and structural systems.
  • Work with external NRTLs to certify compliance to regulatory and seismic standards.
  • Support certification documentation and address non-conformances during testing.
  • Participate in risk reviews and provide structural validation assessments during the Phase-Gate Product Development Process.

Thermal & Environmental Design

  • Design thermal dissipation solutions for power electronics through optimized component placement and heatsink integration.
  • Perform thermal analysis of electrical and mechanical assemblies.
  • Develop environmental heating and cooling strategies for battery modules.
  • Evaluate and improve airflow, insulation systems, and heat management strategies.
  • Support validation of thermal performance through analysis and testing.

Cross-Functional & Manufacturing Support

  • Collaborate with Electrical Engineering to ensure mechanical integration of power electronic systems.
  • Review and interpret electrical schematics to support enclosure and component layout.
  • Support manufacturing with fabrication guidance, machine shop coordination, and assembly improvements.
  • Assist sustaining engineering with design updates, cost reduction initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements:

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline .
  • 5+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong design experience using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Experience designing sheet metal enclosures rated NEMA 3R or better.
  • Experience conducting FEA and structural validation.
  • Thermal analysis and heat dissipation design experience for electrical/mechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced product development environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience or knowledge of thermodynamic insulation systems.
  • Understanding of power electronic systems.
  • Experience reading electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of machine shop fabrication processes.
  • Experience supporting NRTL certification and regulatory compliance activities.
