Job Description

Mechanical Engineer

People Solutions are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join our well-established client in Bathgate.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer looking for an ongoing role with the potential to become permanent, covering long-term sickness within the team.

Shifts:

  • Monday – Friday
  • Initial training period: 8am – 4pm (Day Shift)
  • Following training: Rotational shift pattern including days, back shifts and night shifts (shift allowance paid on top)

Rates of Pay:

  • £18.00 per hour
  • Additional shift allowance once on rotation

Day-to-Day Duties:

As a Mechanical Engineer, your duties will include:

  • Conducting maintenance and repair work on pumps and conveyor systems
  • Undertaking general mechanical engineering tasks
  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out effective repairs
  • Supporting planned and reactive maintenance across the site
  • Ensuring all work is completed in line with health and safety procedures
  • Working as part of a team to minimise downtime and maintain efficiency

Essential Skills:

The skills required as a Mechanical Engineer are:

  • Experience working with pumps and conveyor systems
  • Strong mechanical knowledge and fault-finding ability
  • Ability to carry out both planned and reactive maintenance
  • Good understanding of health and safety practices
  • Reliable and able to work both independently and as part of a team

Desirable Experience:

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is advantageous

Training:

  • Full training provided during initial day shift period before moving onto rotational shifts
