Job Description
Manufacturer in Baltimore County, MD seeking a Mechanical Engineer / Project Engineer for a permanent, direct hire role. 100% in office. Experience in transit products and systems ideal.
The role combines hands-on mechanical design, technical validation, and documentation activities with reliability and cost engineering (DFMEA, RAMS, LCC). The position plays a key role in ensuring design quality, technical integrity, and compliance with customer requirements throughout all project phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electro-mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks, ensuring compliance with customer requirements and RAIL standards.
- Conduct design validation and verification activities, preparing related technical documentation.
- Perform and maintain DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) documentation; support the definition and follow-up of corrective actions.
- Contribute to RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) analyses and documentation.
- Support Life Cycle Cost (LCC) evaluations and design-to-cost initiatives in collaboration with the Standardization and Quality teams.
- Prepare and update technical documentation (drawings, BOMs, reports, specifications) within the company’s ERP systems, ensuring full traceability.
- Prepare product maintenance manuals.
- Provide technical support to the Program Manager in the preparation of customer deliverables, design reviews, and validation reports.
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal departments (Engineering, Quality, Operations) to ensure design feasibility and technical consistency.
- Participate in design reviews, problem-solving activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Conduct off-site customer support and training.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design or system engineering within the RAIL industry or other high-reliability sectors.
- Pneumatic system design and control experience .
- Proficiency or experience in electrical system design is an advantage.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and PDM/PLM systems.
- Strong knowledge of DFMEA, RAMS, and LCC methodologies.
- Experience in validation, testing, and qualification of mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with international RAIL standards (EN, ISO, IEC, etc.).
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes and configuration management principles.
