About the Role

DigiLens is seeking a bright, self-driven, and independent-thinking Mechanical Engineer to join the R&D team at DigiLens. As part of the team, you will be responsible for the mechanical engineering design and development of systems for augmented reality displays. In your role, you will conduct precision opto-mechanical design, build and test to develop DigiLens’ next- waveguide displays and holographic manufacturing technology. Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct mechanical engineering development for DigiLens R&D projects.
  • Design hardware in CAD using Solidworks to support DigiLens waveguide design, fabrication, and test.
  • Work with cross-functional teams on individual projects to develop solutions and contribute to overall project development, as needed.
  • Plan R&D solutions with consideration for eventual scaling to volume fabrication solutions.
  • Support and conduct build and deployment of hardware designs, tools, and processes in R&D.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation of designs, CAD models and technical drawings, assembly procedures, and methods.
  • Generate technical drawings for hardware procurement.
  • Communicate with and drive vendors/partners for component procurement.
  • Frequently work on short development cycles, requiring rapid prototyping and iteration.

Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Three to five years of industry experience in mechanical design using SolidWorks or equivalent.
  • Good knowledge of hardware design, GD&T.
  • Experience in designing static and dynamic mechanical systems.
  • Strong understanding of opto-mechanical principles and components.
  • Familiar with the principles of designs using translation and rotation stages.
  • Familiar with the principles of rapid manufacture and prototyping.
  • Ability to recognize the impact and risks of adding new features to applications.
  • Hands-on experience in engineering and production environments.
  • Ability to apply scientific problem-solving techniques.
  • Quickly learns new technologies.
  • Self-driven and motivated, with the ability to work both independently and with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Strong customer-focused attitude.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Enthusiastic about AR technology.
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Experience developing or supporting optical, projection, and display testing equipment.
  • Experience developing or supporting inkjet printing equipment.
  • Familiarity with LabVIEW and/or automation hardware, as well as experience with programming such as MATLAB, Python, or similar environments.
  • Proficient in assembling optical systems, including handling and cleaning optics, interpreting technical documentation, and describing optical system components and assembly procedures.
