Position Summary

Primary responsibilities of this position include complex mechanical designs of automated solutions from single and multiple assembly station applications to full turnkey assembly cells that provide full quality management. In addition, project management includes project scheduling to meet delivery expectations, project cost review, and design assessments. This position will guide the work of designers and detailers (internal and contract) as required to assure success of design concepts and complete integration of the designs. Work directly with the customer to provide them with a machine that meets the requirements of the RFQ. Assist the sales team to define the project scope and create conceptual layouts based on customer specifications. Assist other departments in achieving cost and delivery schedules through oral and written communication.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform complex mechanical design analysis using Autodesk Inventor and all engineering design functions necessary to resolve basic stress, deflection, and time cycle analysis on specialty equipment and R & D projects.
  • Prepare and maintain an electronic project notebook which will include an open issues list, station planning sheet, meeting notes, and customer documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Confirm design components and procedures based on best engineering practices.
  • Coordinate and conduct design reviews/approvals and runoffs with customers
  • Guide work of designers and details – providing guidance and advice to all within the project discipline stream
  • Work with Purchasing and vendors to control costs.
  • Review, update, modify, and approve mechanical design project plans and work schedules.
  • Provide management with issues lists, schedules, meetings, and all customer documentation.
  • Prepare written procedures, status reports, etc., as required.
  • Develop methods and procedures to improve efficiency of the discipline team.
  • Conduct research and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Liaising with customers to ensure projects are completed to specifications.
  • Maintain performance to target hours, budget, and project schedule.
  • Provide assistance in mechanical design/layouts during the proposal phase.
  • Provide assistance to Field Service as required.
  • Provide assistance to the assembly floor and participate in machine debug.
  • Perform all functions of a mechanical engineer, Tier I and Tier II
  • Assist in recruitment, training, and onboarding.

Education/Experience

BSME, BSMET degree with 5-10 years’ experience in a manufacturing/machine design environment

Associates MET with 10+ years’ experience in a manufacturing/machine design environment is the minimumI just wanted to discuss a requirement.

Mandatory Qualification Requirements

  • Knowledge of OSHA and ANSI standards along with ISO 9001 knowledge
  • Engineering drawing reading and interpretation
  • Possess knowledge of/training in; Cost Effective Manufacturing Methods, Fixture Design and Application, Geometric Tolerancing, Lubrication of Metals, Manufacturing Processes/Methods, Stress & Performance Calculations, Design for Mfg/Assembly, F.M.E.A. (Design & Process), Risk Assessments, and Value Engineering
  • Assist in the development and revision of engineering standards and processes.
  • Peer checking the work of others.
  • Support manufacturing as necessary to resolve issues related to assembly and machining.
  • Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and global safety standards (CE)
  • MS Project software experience, training in time management and technical writing
  • Must possess strong inter-personal, leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Must possess excellent motivational skills and multitasking abilities.
  • Travel as required domestically and internationally.
