Mechanical & Electrical Manager - Local Authority in Reading

Location: Berkshire Contract: 5–6 monthsRate: £400 per day (Umbrella)

We are actively recruiting for an experienced Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Manager to lead the delivery of housing repairs and maintenance services for a Local Authority in Berkshire.

\n

This is a key interim leadership role responsible for overseeing gas, plumbing, and electrical workstreams, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and customer-focused service delivery across responsive repairs, planned maintenance, and external contracts.

\n

The Role:

\n

As M&E Manager, you will:

\n

\n
• Lead the operational delivery of M&E services across the housing stock

\n

• Manage and develop multidisciplinary teams, including supervisors, operatives, and subcontractors

\n

• Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and all relevant building legislation

\n

• Drive performance against KPIs, embedding a strong “right first time” culture

\n

• Hold full responsibility for budget management, workforce planning, and service efficiency

\n

• Use performance data to identify trends and deliver continuous improvement

\n

• Manage complex issues, including escalated complaints, member enquiries, and employee relations matters

\n

• Support and lead service transformation initiatives

\n

About You:

\n

\n
• An HNC or higher qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering

\n

• Strong experience within housing, local authority, or property services

\n

• A proven track record managing large teams, contractors, and operational delivery

\n

• In-depth knowledge of M&E compliance, statutory regulations, and health & safety standards

\n

• Experience managing budgets and delivering value for money

\n

• Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills

\n

• A proactive and results-driven approach to service delivery and improvement
