Mechanical Designer – Body Assembly (Process Design)

We are seeking a Mechanical Designer with strong Process Design experience to support Body Assembly operations, with a focus on PLM database development and maintenance using Siemens Process Designer. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience in automotive manufacturing, with specific knowledge of GM BOE and MD1 North American standards.

This role involves creating and maintaining PLM databases for key architectural areas such as body sides and framing systems. The candidate will collaborate with multiple lead process engineers across various projects and support the Lead Designer in optimizing assembly processes and delivering critical outputs such as Joining Data Sheets and Process Data Sheets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage Siemens Process Designer PLM databases for body-in-white (BIW) manufacturing.

  • Support the creation of deliverables including Joining Data Sheets, Sealer/Adhesives Process Data Sheets, and Hemmer Data Sheets.

  • Maintain database integrity and ensure compliance with GM standards and GEP1 section 3.6 process deliverables.

  • Generate technical reports and provide documentation for design teams.

  • Perform product investigations using Siemens NX CAD tools.

  • Participate in GM user group meetings and review sessions to stay current with industry standards.

  • Understand and apply concepts of GEO and Fixture Tools, Framing, Sub-Assembly Systems, and auto assembly flow within Body Shops.

  • Coordinate with vendors on weld gun integration, end-of-arm tooling, and tooling systems.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in Mechanical Design or an Associate Degree in Mechanical Technology or equivalent.

  • Strong understanding of BIW processing, mechanical sequences, and welding practices.

  • Proficient in Siemens NX, Process Designer, and Teamcenter (GM ).

  • Demonstrated experience with PLM systems, engineering change tracking, and report .

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Ability to function effectively within small engineering teams and across multi-project environments.

  • Exposure to model space/paper space CAD work.

  • Willingness to travel domestically (5–20%) and internationally as needed for technical support.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of DCS functions, 2D drafting, 3D modeling, and basic NX operations.

  • Experience with Fastener Data Sheets, Dispense Nozzle Callouts, and Metal Removal Data Sheets.

  • Familiarity with Controls Documents and the interface with Controls Design.
