Job Title: Mechanical Designer
Location: Schecksville, PA
Type: Contract-to-hire
Salary: $25 - $32/hr (Depending on Experience)
Position Overview:
The Mechanical Designer is responsible for supporting the company’s Custom Solutions group creating fluid system layouts and assembly detail drawings using SolidWorks design software.
In collaboration with the project team, the designer will ensure that all processes, specifications, and best practices are met. Projects include analytical applications, gas distribution, and process support systems for various industries. This job operates in a warehouse setting and ensures the proper application of engineering practices, procedures, and criteria while making certain the project goals of cost, quality, and timeliness are met.
% Of Time Essential Functions:
- 70% - Create detailed fabrication CAD drawings for formed sheet metal and machined parts and assembly drawings for in-house fabrication; create concept/sales CAD drawings for customers based on their design.
- 10% - Interpret customer Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) and generate bill of materials for fluid system designs.
- 10% - Provide support for shop assembly work
Responsibilities:
- Identify, plan, and implement improvements to CAD processes.
- Create simple graphic designs/layouts using Illustrator.
- Work closely with fabrication team to develop and implement areas of fabrication, improved assembly processes, and tooling improvements to increase productivity.
- Identify, plan, and implement manufacturing 5S initiatives.
- Assist with all aspects of large assembly projects from quote to order fulfillment.
- Assist in prioritization of projects and department activities toward department, and company objectives.
- Assist in budget identification and cost reduction opportunities.
- Other duties and assignments as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum (3) years of SolidWorks design experience required
- Minimum of associate degree in technical field (or equivalent)
- 5+ years working with CAD required
- Minimum of 2 years working experience in a manufacturing/fabrication environment
- Experience in checking engineering drawings to applicable standards
- Experience with pressurized systems
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated understanding and practical application of lean manufacturing techniques
- Displays leadership through inter-departmental communication to meet schedules, quality standards, and resource management.
- SolidWorks proficiency
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex problems
- Excellent problem-solving skills including use of data-based decision making
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organization and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of MS-Office including, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, VBA
- Strong knowledge of engineering design practices/principles (e.g., interference checks, tolerance stack-ups, fit etc.)
- Understanding of a change control system
- Knowledge, application, and understanding of ASME and ANSI standards
- Understanding of manufacturing processes
- Competent CAD, 2D drawings and 3D part modelling and assembly creation skills
