You’ll take full ownership of mechanical design delivery — leading multidisciplinary coordination, ensuring technical compliance, and guiding the project from early design through to construction and commissioning support.\n\nIf you’re seeking a role that combines complex technical challenges with flexibility, autonomy, and career-defining exposure, this is the one.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * Lead all mechanical design and coordination activities across multiple hyperscale and enterprise-level data centre projects.\n\n * Develop, review, and manage designs for HVAC, chilled water, DX systems, CRAC/CRAH units, ductwork, and air distribution systems.\n\n * Interface with internal engineering teams, consultants, and clients to ensure seamless delivery of mechanical systems.\n\n * Provide technical leadership and ensure compliance with ASHRAE, CIBSE, and British Standards.\n\n * Manage the design process from concept through to IFC, ensuring design intent, performance, and resilience objectives are met.\n\n * Drive energy efficiency, sustainability, and resilience across all design deliverables.\n\n * Collaborate closely with electrical, CSA, and commissioning teams to ensure full integration of MEP systems.\n\n * Conduct and chair design coordination meetings, risk workshops, and technical reviews.\n\n * Lead value engineering initiatives, optimising performance while maintaining reliability and uptime requirements.\n\n * Mentor junior engineers and promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.\n\nKey Requirements\n\n * Degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (Chartered status desirable – CEng / MCIBSE).\n\n * Strong consultancy background, with experience managing multidisciplinary design delivery.\n\n * Proven track record in data centre mechanical design (hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise).\n\n * Deep understanding of mission-critical mechanical systems – redundancy (N+1, N+2), resilience, and uptime.\n\n * Strong knowledge of HVAC system design, chilled water systems, and advanced cooling technologies.\n\n * Excellent understanding of British Standards, ASHRAE, CIBSE, and other international design codes.\n\n * Familiarity with design tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, IES, Hevacomp, Navisworks, or equivalent.\n\n * Exceptional communication skills with the ability to lead remote teams and manage client interfaces.\n\n * Self-driven, technically strong, and able to operate effectively in a fully remote environment.\n\nWhy Join This Company?\n\n * Work with a market-leading data centre design specialist with a proven track record of excellence.\n\n * Be part of a team that combines consultancy expertise with delivery precision.\n\n * Fully remote contract – flexible working and UK-wide collaboration.\n\n * Competitive day rate of £500–£600.\n\n * Long-term projects with ongoing pipeline across Europe.\n\n * Exposure to cutting-edge design technologies and mission-critical engineering systems.\n\n * Work within a company culture that values innovation, technical rigour, and collaboration
