Job Summary:
We are seeking a talented and experienced Mechanical Design Engineering Team Lead to oversee and guide a team of engineers in the development of cutting-edge mechanical systems and components. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with strong leadership and communication skills to drive innovation, ensure high-quality deliverables, and foster collaboration. This role involves hands-on design work as well as mentoring and supporting the engineering team.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Team Leadership
    • Lead and mentor a team of mechanical design engineers, providing guidance, and technical support.
    • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure project deliverables meet deadlines and quality standards.
    • Foster a positive, collaborative, and innovative team environment
  2. Design and Development:
    • Oversee the design and development of mechanical components and systems.
    • Review and approve CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
    • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
  3. Technical Expertise:
    • Perform advanced design, analysis, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems.
    • Conduct design reviews to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
    • Utilize simulation and FEA tools to validate and optimize designs.
  4. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, and other engineers.
    • Work closely with project management to contribute to project schedule and budget development and maintenance
    • Communicate work status, challenges, and solutions to project management
    • Support contractor management as technical point of contact as required
  5. Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the design team.
    • Stay updated with advancements in mechanical engineering tools, materials, and methodologies.
    • Implement best practices for design workflows and documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in mechanical design, including leadership or mentorship roles.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks ).
  • Strong knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes (e.g. CNC, injection molding), GD&T, and FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL).
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Skills:

  • Proven experience in leading design teams.
  • Familiarity with DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly).
  • Knowledge of rapid prototyping, 3D printing technologies, and emerging trends in mechanical design.
  • Understanding of regulatory and compliance standards for the industry.
  • Experience with design for injection molding
  • Experience with motors and motor control
  • Familiarity with electronics such as soldering, crimping, and the integration of electronics into mechanical designs
  • Familiarity with wire harnesses
  • Experience with customer-facing programs and application integration
