Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Finite Engineering. Founded in 2002, we are a Overland Park, Kansas-based engineering firm specializing in finite element analysis (FEA), mechanical design, and custom engineering solutions.
The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in mechanical engineering, with some experience or knowledge of CAD software and FEA techniques. This position involves assisting in the design and analysis of mechanical components and systems, with emphasis on finite element analysis, tank and pressure vessel calculations, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Candidates who are available to work full-time in our Overland Park office are , but a fully remote work option may be available for qualified individuals.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design and analysis of mechanical components and systems
- Perform tank and pressure vessel calculations and design work
- Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) and stress studies
- Create technical reports and engineering documentation
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (ASME, etc.)
- Collaborate with team members and clients on design concepts and solutions
- Utilize CAD software for design, modeling, and drafting
- Support project management activities including scope, schedule, and budget adherence
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience with CAD software (Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar)
- Knowledge of or experience with finite element analysis (FEA) techniques
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of engineering experience (entry-level candidates welcome)
- Knowledge of ASME Section VIII Division 1 Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code
- Experience with pressure vessel or tank design
- Familiarity with welded steel and alloy fabrication processes
- FEA experience, particularly in stress analysis
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor and Inventor Nastran
- Experience with SolidWorks and SolidWorks Simulation
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain
- Understanding of manufacturing processes for pressure equipment
