Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer for a role based in an Automotive Engineering company in Birmingham. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to directly influence the technical roadmap and deliver innovative, high-quality design solutions in the automotive remanufacturing sector.



Key Responsibilities:



* Lead creation of 3D concept designs using CAD software.



* Produce detailed technical and assembly drawings, including BoM management, with appropriate geometric tolerancing.



* Standardise design principles to ensure quality and efficiency.



* Perform basic FEA analysis to validate component durability.



* Select, implement, and maintain CAD PLM software for drawing control.



* Validate designs using a range of engineering measurement tools, including CMM.



* Resolve design issues swiftly while maintaining quality standards.



* Collaborate with customers, applications engineers, production teams, and suppliers to develop solutions, improve efficiency, and resolve technical challenges.



* Support reverse engineering activities to address product obsolescence.



* Update and maintain product BoMs within Epicor ERP.



Essential Skills & Experience:



* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.



* Minimum 5 years’ CAD design experience (Catia, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Spaceclaim, etc.).



* Strong experience in 3D modelling, technical drawing creation, and BoM management.



* Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic system design desirable.



* Reverse engineering experience.



* Understanding of GD&T and relevant ISO standards.



* FEA analysis experience desirable.



* Skilled in engineering measurement techniques and tools (manual and CMM).



* Strong communication skills and proven team-working ability.



* Proficient in MS Office applications.
