Role: Mechanical Design Engineer - Building Services

Location: Birmingham City Centre

Salary: Up to £45,000 (depending on experience)



A well-established building services consultancy in the heart of Birmingham is seeking a driven and technically strong Mechanical Design Engineer to join their close-knit team.



About the Company



With over a decade of delivering high-quality MEP solutions, this firm prides itself on a personable, flexible approach to projects. They operate with a lean team of around 10 MEP Engineers and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients across the residential, education, commercial, and industrial sectors. Projects range from feasibility studies and dilapidation reports to detailed designs and plant room upgrades.



This consultancy is deeply networked in the Midlands, with most business generated through repeat clients and long-standing relationships. They also enjoy a strong team culture - often bonding over activity days and social days.



The Role



This is a great opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer with building services experience, with working knowledge of IES VE for thermal and energy modelling. You'll support on mechanical calculations and project delivery across a wide variety of schemes.



They're looking for someone who is competent working on UK-based schemes and is familiar with a consultancy environment.



Key Responsibilities



Mechanical design calculations for HVAC and public health systems



Use of IES (or willingness to develop skills in it) for thermal modelling and environmental analysis



Supporting senior engineers on projects across residential (50%), education, commercial, and industrial sectors



Working in Revit ( but not essential - training available)



Engaging in feasibility studies and report writing



Requirements



Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering



2+ years of experience in a building services consultancy



Experience with IES or strong interest in learning it



Familiarity with Revit (advantageous)



Strong communication and problem-solving skills



A collaborative mindset suited to a small but highly effective team
