We're Hiring: Mechanical Design Engineer / Senior Design Engineer\n Location: Manchester | Hybrid (min. 3 days/week in-office)\n Start Date: August 2025\n Employment Type: Permanent \n Salary:\n\nPermanent: £45,000 - £65,000 (DOE) About the Role\n\nWe're looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer or Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the growing team in Manchester. You'll play a key role in delivering high-quality mechanical engineering solutions for a range of projects, particularly in the UK water sector.\n\nThis is an exciting opportunity to work on various UMON projects, contributing to technically challenging and meaningful infrastructure design work.\n\n About \n\nThe company is a leading engineering design consultancy serving clients across the rail and utilities sectors.

They offer a safe, inclusive, and supportive workplace where both mental and physical wellbeing are prioritised.\n\nWhat They Offer:\n\nPermanent Staff: Competitive salary, employee benefits package, workplace pension, training & development ️ Responsibilities\n\nDeliver design outputs that meet safety, quality, and client standards\nProduce design calculations and technical drawings (clean/wastewater focus)\nMentor and guide CAD technicians\nDefine scopes and review output from subcontract M&E teams\nPrepare technical specifications and evaluate supplier bids\nCarry out design investigations and produce engineering reports\nEnsure designs adhere to all relevant standards and regulations\nTrack design changes and manage scope\nEstimate resource requirements for design packages\nAttend and present at client and design meetings What they are Looking For\n\nEssential Qualifications & Experience\n\n5+ years' mechanical design experience (UK water industry)\nDegree, HND or equivalent experience\nStrong IT skills\nProfessionally registered and working towards chartershipDesirable\n\nChartered Engineer (CEng)\nExperience with UMON schemes\nHydraulic design experience\nClean and wastewater experience (infrastructure and non-infrastructure)\nUnderstanding of construction practices and materials\nStrong grasp of engineering drawing standards Key Skills\n\nExcellent communication\nStrong technical acumen\nResults-oriented\nConfident problem solver\nMentorship and development of others\nPassion for learning and self-improvementExcellent Salary 45-65k plus\n\nHolidays: \n\nYou are entitled to 23 days per year leave plus 8 days public and bank holidays. \n\nAdditional holiday will be rewarded for service after 2 years on 31st December at the rate of 1 day per year.
This is up to a maximum of 5 days on 31st December after 7 complete years' service (pro rata equivalent for part time staff).\n\nYou may also buy up to one working week of holidays (5 days for full time and pro-rated for part time staff).
