Position Overview
GTI Fabrication is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of custom prefabricated metal enclosures. This role will involve daily use of SolidWorks and AutoCAD to create and modify detailed 2D and 3D mechanical drawings. The ideal candidate will have experience in modular construction, sheet metal design, and the integration of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems into prefabricated units.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed 2D and 3D mechanical design plans for custom prefabricated enclosures using SolidWorks and AutoCAD
- Develop mechanical drawings that include structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems
- Modify and revise technical drawings based on engineer markups
- Coordinate ductwork, piping, and system routing with internal teams and other trades
- Support engineering staff with drafting and technical documentation
- Ensure designs meet quality, safety, and compliance standards
- Maintain accurate project documentation and version control
- Participate in design reviews and provide input on constructability and manufacturability
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or a related technical field
- Proficiency in SolidWorks is mandatory; candidates will be tested during the interview
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and 3D modeling software
- Experience with ISO shipping containers and modular or prefabricated construction methods
- Familiarity with sheet metal, metal framing, and welded assemblies
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and documentation accuracy
- Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Previous experience in manufacturing or fabrication environments
- Exposure to BIM software or integrated modeling platforms
