Mechanical Design Engineer\n\nLocation: Manchester, Greater Manchester\n\nSalary: Competitive (based on experience)\n\nContract Type: Permanent, Full-Time\n\nWorking Hours: Monday – Friday\n\nWe are recruiting on behalf of our client, an international leader in low-carbon energy and battery storage solutions, for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Projects & Design Team in Manchester. This is a key role for our client requiring a design ‘all-rounder’ with power sector experience and someone capable of handling projects from start to finish.\n\nAbout the Role\n\nAs a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the mechanical design and technical delivery of innovative energy projects. These include Combined Heat and Power (CHP), Tri , and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).\n\nYou will work across the full project lifecycle—from concept to commissioning—developing process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, specifications, and functional design documentation.

You’ll also lead CAD coordination and ensure designs are safe, compliant, and cost-effective.\n\nMechanical Design Engineer Key Responsibilities\n\nCreate and review detailed mechanical designs for power systems\n\nGenerate specifications, P&IDs, functional and technical documents\n\nPerform pipe and pump sizing calculations, safety assessments, and layout surveys\n\nCoordinate internal and supplier CAD design activity\n\nOversee supplier performance and compliance with project quality plans\n\nLiaise with stakeholders including project managers, suppliers, and clients\n\nSupport budgeting and cost-efficiency of design solutions\n\nProvide occasional on-site technical support\n\nMechanical Design Engineer Essential Requirements\n\nHNC/D or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)\n\nMinimum 2 years’ experience in power or energy project design\n\nProven technical experience in pipework and ventilation design, CDM, and health & safety\n\nCompetency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD 3D (or equivalent)\n\nRevit experience would be beneficial\n\nFull UK driving licence\n\nWhat’s on Offer\n\n25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays\n\nEnhanced holiday with service\n\nCompany pension scheme with employer contributions\n\nPrivate healthcare\n\nLife insurance\n\nEmployee Assistance Programme\n\nCycle to Work Scheme\n\nCareer development and continuous training\n\nPlease note: This is a UK permanent role, and candidates will require eligibility to work in the UK to be considered for this role
