Overview
We are exclusively recruiting for a leading engineering company in Tamworth, specialising in the design and manufacture of bespoke, high-value, low-volume equipment. This is a key opportunity for a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer with strong experience in SolidWorks and designing custom mechanical systems for industrial applications.
Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop custom mechanical systems and components using SolidWorks CAD software
*
Produce detailed technical drawings, 3D models, and assembly layouts for bespoke equipment
*
Apply engineering principles to perform stress analysis, tolerance studies, and mechanical calculations
*
Modify and optimise existing designs to meet client specifications and manufacturing requirements
*
Collaborate with production and engineering teams to ensure design feasibility and cost-effectiveness
*
Conduct design reviews and implement changes based on testing and client feedback
*
Maintain accurate documentation of design files, engineering specifications, and project records
*
Liaise with suppliers and contractors to source materials and components
*
Support the project management team with technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle
Skills and Experience:
*
Minimum 5 years’ experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within bespoke equipment manufacturing
*
Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, with a proven track record of producing detailed 3D models and assembly drawings
*
Knowledge of FMEA as part of the design process
*
Apprentice-trained or degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
*
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform mechanical calculations
*
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in technical drawings and documentation
*
Organised, proactive, and capable of managing multiple design projects simultaneously
*
Strong communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external suppliers
