Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
We have a new vacancy for a bright Mechanical Engineer to join a well-established, Bedfordshire based leader in the development of special purpose machinery and automation systems for the food and beverage manufacturing industry. The Mechanical Design Engineer will join their team developing highly innovative and flexible manufacturing solutions for this fast-moving industry sector.
Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities
- Hands-on Mechanical Engineering and CAD based design of the company’s bespoke special purpose equipment and industrial automation systems.
- Creation of detailed 3D models and drawings suitable for manufacture for both standard and custom machines
- Design precision assemblies and assist with testing of equipment.
- Conducting feasibility studies for new concepts and support the sales team.
- Recommending modifications for systems
- Preparing production documentation such as Bills of Materials in accordance with company procedures, compiling manufacturing packs to assist fitting engineers with assembly of machinery.
Mechanical Engineer Requirements
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent practical experience in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- Extensive use of 3D &2D CAD system, preferably Autodesk Inventor.
- Experience in design of complex assemblies including pneumatics, fluid systems, steam systems and energy calculations, stress calculations, tolerance analysis, sheet metal development, machined components, rotating elements, sensors, actuators, conveyors, drive mechanisms, gears etc.
- Experience of design work carried out on food machinery and systems will be highly desirable.
- Previous shop floor “hands on” experience will be desirable: Machining, Welding Fabrication “Time served Apprentice” etc.
- Experience of design change processes, DFMA and value engineering
- Specify and source technical bought out items to ensure they conform to customer requirements.
- Strong problem solving and excellent time management skills, excellent communication skills.
Hours: 8:30am - 5:00pm (Monday to Friday). Overtime is sometimes available.
