Job DescriptionJob DescriptionAs an HVAC Controls Trainee for Craftsmen Resources, you will step into the high-tech world of Building Automation Systems (BAS). You will assist in the installation and startup of the "smart" systems that manage climate, energy usage, and safety in commercial and industrial environments.
Our average work week is Monday – Friday, 08:00 AM – 05:00 PM, though certain projects may require overtime or a variable schedule.
Role Responsibilities
As a trainee, you will work under the guidance of a Lead Controls Technician to:

  • Install Control Hardware: Mount and wire controllers, sensors, actuators, and thermostats for HVAC units, boilers, and chillers.
  • Low-Voltage Wiring: Pull, terminate, and label low-voltage communication cabling (such as RS-485 or Ethernet) according to project specifications.
  • Blueprint & Schematic Literacy: Learn to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and point-to-point wiring diagrams.
  • System Testing: Assist in "point-to-point" checkouts to ensure every sensor and motor is communicating correctly with the master controller.
  • Tool Operation: Safely use hand tools, power tools, and basic electrical testing equipment (multimeters).
  • Safety Excellence: Be a safety champion, follow all site-specific protocols, and return home safely each day.

Pay Range: $18.00 – $22.00 / hour (Dependent on Experience)Job Requirements

  • Experience: 0–2 years of experience in HVAC installation, electrical work, or a related technical field.
  • Technical Aptitude: A basic understanding of electrical circuits and a high level of comfort using computers and tablets.
  • Physical Ability: Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds, climb ladders, and work in mechanical rooms or overhead spaces.
  • Reliability: Ability to work at least 40 hours per week and maintain a consistent schedule.
  • Communication: Strong ability to work well with others and follow complex technical instructions.
  • Licensing: Ability to obtain an apprentice license with the state licensing board if required.
