The Mechanical CAD Designer is responsible for using CAD equipment by reverse engineering machine components, preparing layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches and diagrams. Details to include all views and dimensions necessary for production. Make copies of drawings and execute and document engineering change orders.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create accurate 3D models and 2D detailed drawings of machined and cast components using SolidWorks and Autodesk Inventor.
  • Convert 2D drawings to 3D models and drawings in SolidWorks.
  • Reverse engineer components using both traditional and modern inspection equipment (micrometers, calipers, CMM, Faro Arm).
  • Apply a strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and material specifications.
  • Create and revise production drawings (detail and assembly drawings).
  • Make final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimensions of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to the whole structure or project.
  • Sketch a rough layout of the machine and compute angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages, and location of holes.
  • Clarify design intent and provide technical support to the manufacturing, quality, and inspection teams.
  • Collaborate with machinists and production staff to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Utilize knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
  • Maintain and update engineering documentation and drawing databases.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
  • 2-5 years of relevant CAD Design experience.
  • High skill level in SolidWorks software and familiarity with AutoCAD and Inventor.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Demonstrated expertise in creating detailed manufacturing drawings for machined parts.
  • Experience with reverse engineering using traditional and modern metrology equipment.
  • Ability to write routine reports, operating instructions, and correspondence.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • A collaborative spirit and a willingness to work hands-on in a machine shop setting.
  • Skilled in PC usage and associated software, including Google Workspace.

Pay: $28.00 - $33.00/hour depending on education, experience, and skills.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
