Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Terra Cotta Ceramic Engineer to support all aspects of glaze development, matching, testing, and preparation. This role is responsible for maintaining the glaze preparation area, ensuring product quality, and upholding core values such as integrity, safety, respect, customer focus, quality, innovation, and financial success.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate incoming samples and determine appropriate application techniques for production
- Oversee the preparation of glazes and materials for matching trials
- Inspect glazes for defects and ensure product quality standards are met
- Test finished products for freeze/thaw resistance, chemical resistance, adhesion, and durability
- Maintain accurate records of glaze formulas, stains, and chemical pricing
- Supervise maintenance of glaze preparation processes and laboratory equipment
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate reordering of stains and chemicals
- Prepare reports and respond to information requests as needed
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies and regulatory requirements
- Conduct safety meetings, inspections, and ensure timely correction of hazards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3–5 years of experience in a clay products or ceramic manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of glaze formulation, testing, and quality control processes
- Ability to identify problems and implement effective solutions in a dynamic environment
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and safety standards
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams
- Experience supporting capital projects and environmental considerations is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer systems
- Valid driver’s license required (ability to travel to other sites as needed)
Physical Demands
- Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and sit throughout the workday
- Frequently required to drive a personal vehicle to deliver bank deposits to a local bank
- Occasionally required to bend at the waist and lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
- Up to 25% travel may be required
- Regular and reliable attendance is essential
