Position Overview
NewSchool of Architecture+Design is currently seeking a Materials Lab Technician to assist in overseeing and management of the day-to-day activities in our School's Materials Lab. This position will report directly to the Materials Lab Manager.
Responsibilities
- Provides feedback to the manager regarding equipment and supplies needed in the lab and help to make them available to the students.
- Assists in training and management of up to twelve lab employees, including scheduling.
- Educates students on the proper use of equipment, material selection, lab procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Works to develop certification program(s) for various types of equipment.
- Maintains a resource material and equipment library.
- Assists in any upgrades and changes to the lab facilities and equipment.
- Updates Safety and CAL/OSHA standards as needed. Updates hazardous materials manual. Maintains various lab records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- An associate degree is the minimum qualification for the position in the Materials lab.
- Bachelor's degree in Art, Architecture, Design, or related; or equivalent experience is .
- Experience with carpentry, metalworking, and other general knowledge of building materials and their equipment to be used at a variety of scales.
- Knowledge of CNC equipment including three-axis routing, laser cutters, and 3D printers.
- Teaching and management skills, preferably shop-related.
- Familiarity with OHSA guidelines.
Working Conditions
Normal office conditions. Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment but may involve exposure to moderate noise levels. Work involves operating personal computer equipment for six to eight hours daily and includes physical demands associated with a traditional office setting, e.g., walking, standing, communicating, and other physical functions, as necessary.
