Job Description
Materials Engineer
Location: United States
Employment Type: Permanent, full-time
The Opportunity
This organisation is a highly specialised technology company working at the cutting edge of magnetic materials, ferrite chemistry, and electromagnetic system design. The team owns patented materials technology used in high-performance radar, RF, and advanced electronic systems.
They are seeking a Materials Engineer with deep expertise in ferrite materials and magnetic compounds to join their R&D and intellectual property team. This role sits at the intersection of advanced materials science, applied physics, and technology commercialisation, supporting both product development and patent strategy.
This is a rare opportunity to work on proprietary materials formulations that are protected by global patents and deployed in mission-critical systems.
What You Will Do
You will act as the technical authority on ferrite and magnetic materials, supporting both R&D and IP-driven product development.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing, analysing, and optimising ferrite-based materials for RF, radar, and electromagnetic applications
- Conducting materials characterisation including magnetic, dielectric, and microstructural testing
- Supporting the development of novel ferrite compositions and manufacturing processes
- Working alongside patent attorneys and IP teams to protect and defend proprietary materials technology
- Translating laboratory research into commercially viable materials systems
- Supporting prototype development, testing, and validation
- Acting as a technical expert for internal engineering and external licensing partners
What They Are Looking For
This role is designed for someone with deep, specialist knowledge of ferrite materials who can operate in both technical and IP-driven environments.
You will likely bring:
- PhD or MSc in Materials Science, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Direct experience with ferrite materials, magnetic ceramics, or RF materials
- Background in radar, RF systems, microwave engineering, or electromagnetic materials
- Experience working in research, defence, advanced electronics, or high-tech materials
- Exposure to patents, IP, or technology commercialisation is highly desirable
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills
