Overview

Energy Jobline is supporting a major international energy infrastructure programme and is seeking an experienced Materials & Corrosion Prevention Engineer to support asset integrity across complex oil & gas developments.

The role focuses on material selection, corrosion mitigation strategies, and ensuring long-term performance of assets across design, construction, and operational phases.

The Role

Reporting to the Jacket Engineering Coordinator, the Materials & Corrosion Prevention Engineer will provide technical expertise to ensure appropriate materials and corrosion control strategies are implemented across pipelines, process equipment, and offshore structures.

The role requires close collaboration with engineering, QA/QC, and operations teams to ensure compliance with international standards and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Support material selection for pipelines, process systems, and offshore structures based on operating conditions
• Develop and review Material Selection Diagrams (MSDs) and corrosion control strategies
• Define and implement corrosion mitigation methods including coatings, cathodic protection, and chemical inhibition
• Review material requisitions, specifications, and technical bid evaluations
• Ensure compliance with international standards (API, ASME, ISO) and project requirements
• Review vendor documentation including material certificates and welding procedures
• Monitor coating applications, insulation systems, and corrosion protection installations
• Conduct site inspections and audits to verify material quality and corrosion control measures
• Support QA/QC activities including inspections, FATs, and system verification
• Analyse corrosion monitoring data and recommend corrective actions
• Support risk-based inspection (RBI) and asset integrity programmes
• Investigate material failures and perform root cause analysis

Skills & Experience

• Strong knowledge of materials engineering, metallurgy, and corrosion mechanisms
• Experience in oil & gas environments across design, construction, and operational phases
• Ability to interpret technical documentation including P&IDs, PFDs, and engineering drawings
• Familiarity with corrosion modelling and analysis tools
• Experience supporting asset integrity and inspection programmes
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in Engineering from an accredited university
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in materials and corrosion engineering within energy or infrastructure projects
• Experience working on offshore and/or onshore oil & gas projects
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills

The advertised day rate applies to independent consultants operating on a contract basis. Candidates who prefer to be engaged as employees of the client may be offered a different remuneration structure.
