Materials Controller in Wrexham

Materials Controller
Wrexham
£30,000–£35,000

A manufacturing business in Wrexham is hiring a Materials Controller to own MRP, inventory planning and supplier performance. This is a hands-on planning role for someone who already runs MRP properly in Sage (or a similar manufacturing ERP) and can turn system output into clean buying decisions.
If you are used to sitting in the MRP cycle — reviewing recommendations, challenging parameters, raising POs and protecting both output and working capital — this role gives you end-to-end ownership of that process.

Why this role You will run the planning cycle from demand through to delivery: forecast, action MRP, buy, chase and keep stock turning. You will work across Sales, Operations, Manufacturing, Finance and Procurement, and you will flag risk early rather than wait for the shop floor to feel it.

This is not a reactive stores or admin-buying job. It is a Materials Controller / inventory planner position with real accountability for stock levels, lead times and continuity of supply.
What you will do
Run MRP in Sage (or similar ERP): review recommendations, clean exceptions and convert them into a reliable buying plan
Keep planning parameters accurate — lead times, lot sizes, safety stock, MOQs and supplier data
Set and hold stock levels that meet demand without building excess inventory
Measure inventory against stock-turn targets and act on the gaps
Use sales forecasts, the order book and history to decide what to buy and when
Raise, track and close purchase orders to process
Manage supplier OTIF, chase late shipments and recover supply
Feed S&OP with a clear picture of supply versus demand
Flag shortages, capacity issues and recovery plans before they hit production
Support new product introductions with material availability plans
Improve planning routines, supplier scorecards and day-to-day ERP use Who you are
Proven experience as a Materials Controller, Materials Planner, Inventory Controller, Inventory Planner, or in a purchasing / supply chain role with genuine planning ownership
Strong, current MRP skill set — you routinely use MRP in Sage X3 or a comparable manufacturing ERP (not just raise POs from a list)
Comfortable interrogating demand, stock and exception reports and turning them into action
Strong Excel and the ability to work with planning data, not just look at it
Working knowledge of stock management, lead times and supplier OTIF
Clear, calm communication when supply is tight Strongly : Sage X3 (or Sage 200 / similar manufacturing ERP) with day-to-day MRP, planning parameters and buying from MRP output
