Overview
Energy Jobline is supporting a major international energy infrastructure programme and is seeking an experienced Material & Corrosion Prevention Engineer to support asset integrity and materials engineering activities across complex energy facilities.
The role will focus on ensuring appropriate material selection and corrosion control strategies are implemented across design, construction, and operational phases of the project.
The Role
Reporting to the Jacket Engineering Coordinator, the Material & Corrosion Prevention Engineer will provide technical expertise in materials engineering and corrosion management for offshore and onshore energy infrastructure.
The role involves reviewing material specifications, supporting corrosion mitigation strategies, and ensuring compliance with industry standards throughout engineering, fabrication, installation, and operational phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Review material selections for equipment, pipelines, and structural components based on operating conditions and corrosion risks
- Support development of Material Selection Diagrams (MSDs) and corrosion control documentation
- Contribute to preparation and review of procurement documentation including material requisitions and technical bid evaluations
- Support corrosion prevention strategies including coatings, cathodic protection systems, and chemical inhibition programs
- Ensure materials and corrosion management approaches comply with applicable industry standards and project specifications
- Review vendor documentation, material certificates, and welding procedures to ensure compliance with project requirements
- Monitor coating application, insulation systems, and corrosion monitoring installations during fabrication and construction
- Participate in inspections, testing, and quality assurance activities related to materials and corrosion protection
- Analyze corrosion monitoring data and support integrity management programs including risk-based inspection activities
- Assist in investigations of material degradation or failures and recommend corrective actions where required
Skills & Experience
- Strong understanding of materials science, metallurgy, and corrosion mechanisms
- Experience working within oil & gas, energy, or heavy industrial environments
- Ability to interpret engineering documentation such as P&IDs, process diagrams, and piping drawings
- Familiarity with corrosion modelling or analysis tools such as OLI, CO2Sys, or ECE
- Experience supporting integrity management and corrosion monitoring programmes
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in materials engineering or corrosion management within energy or industrial projects
- Experience supporting offshore or onshore oil & gas infrastructure projects
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
Additional Information
The advertised day rate applies to independent consultants operating on a contract basis. Candidates who prefer to be engaged as employees of the client may be offered a different remuneration structure.
