Job Description

Job Description: \n\n Airbus Helicopters is looking for a \n\nMaster's Thesis Student (d/f/m) in the field of Manufacturing Process Simulation\n\nYou are looking for a master thesis and want to get to know the work of a job title? Then apply now! We look forward to you supporting us in the Airplane Doors Department as a Master’s student (d/f/m)!

\n\n* Location: Donauwörth \n\n* Start: as soon as possible \n\n* Duration: 6 months \n\n\n\nIn modern aircraft construction, the substitution of metallic components with thermoplastic fiber reinforced composites is a decisive step towards realizing lighter, more efficient, and more cost-effective aircraft structures. Materials such as Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polyaryletherketone (C/PAEK) offer an outstanding combination of mechanical performance, chemical resistance, and high temperature stability, making them ideal for use in primary and secondary structures.\nThe manufacturing of structural parts (like beams or frames) made by thermoforming promises a high degree of automation and short cycle times. However, complying with the geometric tolerances required in aircraft construction is a challenge caused by process-induced warping of the parts.

The anisotropic thermal contraction and the complex cooling processes from high processing temperatures (typically >350°C) lead to residual stresses, which result in significant dimensional deviations after demolding.\nThe overall objective of this master's thesis is to develop and validate a simulation strategy for warpage prediction of thermoplastic airplane door components manufactured by thermoforming.\n\nYour location \n\n At our Donauwörth site, located on the banks of the river Danube, we develop helicopters from the initial idea to the airworthy product. Watch them take off and touch down on our own on-site test airfield. \n\n Your benefits \n\n* Attractive salary and work-life balance with an 35-hour week (flexitime).

\n\n* International environment with the opportunity to network globally. \n\n* Work with modern/diversified technologies. \n\n* At Airbus, we see you as a valuable team member and you are not hired to brew coffee, instead you are in close contact with the interfaces and are part of our weekly team meetings.

\n\n* Opportunity to participate in the “ Airbus Community” to expand your own network. \n\n\n\nYour tasks and responsibilities \n\n* Conducting a comprehensive literature review.\n\n* Developing and implementing a simulation strategy for warpage prediction of thermoplastic airplane door structures.\n\n* Conducting warpage predictions for a selected reference part.\n\n* Comparing the simulated final geometry with existing measurement data of the real reference part.\n\n* Appling a tooling compensation procedure.\n\n* Detailed discussion of the validation results, a critical assessment of the model's accuracy, and its limitations.\n\n* Documentation and presentation of the procedure and achieved results.\n\n\n\nDesired skills and qualifications \n\n* Enrolled full-time student in the area of Aerospace Engineering, Lightweight Design, Mechanical Engineering, Computational Engineering or an equivalent field of study. \n\n* A strong background in the mechanics of fiber reinforced composites and non-linear finite element analysis.

\n\n* Experience with CAE software (ABAQUS, Hyperworks) is mandatory. \n\n* Basic experience in the field of 3D Modeling with CATIA is desirable.Basic Knowledge in Programming (Fortran77, Python) is beneficial. \n\n* skills: German and English - business fluent \n\n\n\nPlease upload the following documents: cover letter, CV, relevant transcripts, enrollment certificate, study regulation.
