ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

BMG has an exciting opportunity for a Manufacturing Operations Manager located at our headquarters site in Beaverton, MI. The Manufacturing Operations Manager will oversee and coordinate daily operations to ensure the achievement of optimal production performance. This role requires a balanced mix of hands-on leadership on the shop floor and strategic management in the office, with approximately 50% of the time spent on each. Responsibilities include directing supervisory staff, ensuring the execution of the daily manufacturing schedule, monitoring quality and performance, identifying and implementing efficiency improvements, overseeing plant equipment maintenance, and resource planning—all while fostering a strong safety culture.

A key focus of this role is the implementation and sustainment of Lean manufacturing principles, driving operational excellence through waste elimination, process standardization, and continuous improvement. Strong problem-solving skills, exceptional decision-making ability, and effective communication are key components of success in this role.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Achieving the highest levels of customer satisfaction by delivering high quality products and services with competitive market lead times and high on-time performance.
  2. Maintain an effective balance between shop floor presence and office duties, dedicating approximately 50% of the time to each.
  3. Develop and communicate daily operational plans to ensure smooth manufacturing processes, meeting production schedules, and maintaining high-quality standards.
  4. Collaborate with master scheduling and production leads to ensure proper resource allocation and coverage, adjusting schedules as necessary to meet customer demands.
  5. Oversee the coordination of work hours and shifts for all department personnel to meet production needs.
  6. Manage departmental costs, including overtime and other related expenditures.
  7. Manage machine order costs to quote (labor & material).
  8. Participate in recruitment, employee retention, training, and development efforts.
  9. Supervise shop floor operations for fabrication, machining, and assembly, including administering disciplinary actions as needed.
  10. Manage maintenance personnel to ensure proper facility upkeep and equipment maintenance.
  11. Regularly evaluate employee performance and set clear expectations to drive continuous improvement.
  12. Establish and meet performance targets for scrap/rework reduction, labor efficiency, and on-time deliveries.
  13. Lead department personnel in achieving goals set by executive management.
  14. Champion Lean manufacturing methodologies such as 5S, value stream mapping, standard work, and visual management to drive efficiency, reduce waste, and improve process flow.
  15. Facilitate daily Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) discussions, incorporating Lean metrics to monitor progress and identify improvement opportunities.
  16. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and facility requirements.
  17. Review and maintain compliance with quality procedures, work instructions, and standard practices.
  18. Foster a safe work environment by enforcing safety policies and maintaining a clean and organized facility.
  19. Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
  20. Perform other duties and tasks as assigned or required.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A minimum of a 4-year technical degree or 5-10 years of equivalent work experience in a vertically integrated manufacturing environment.
  2. A minimum of 5 years of experience in people management.
  3. Extensive background in custom manufacturing, with deep knowledge of fabrication, machining, and assembly processes.
  4. Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is .
  5. Familiarity with ISO quality systems is a plus.
  6. Hands-on experience applying Lean manufacturing principles, implementing standardized work, and utilizing Lean tools such as 5S, root cause analysis (RCA), and visual management.
  7. A strong technical background with a continuous improvement mindset is .
  8. A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
