POSTION DESCRIPTION
Position: Maintenance Mechanic
Position Summary
Repairs and maintains, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer's specifications, production machinery, mechanical equipment and lift trucks including pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical control and power distribution systems. Analyzes and troubleshoots machinery and equipment, dismantles and removes defective parts using hoists, cranes, hand and power tools. Inspects parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rules, calipers, micrometers, precision-measuring and testing instruments and repairs/replaces those parts found to be defective or out of specifications. Observes mechanical devices in operation to locate causes of trouble and makes repairs in a timely manner. Contacts vendors and suppliers for information and repair parts, creates purchase orders for parts and/or services, obtains approval and manages process through receipt, installation and testing. Analyzes and trouble shoots electrical controls (schematics) including PLC logic and three-phase power distribution. Performs preventive and predictive maintenance and documents repairs and maintenance performed and repair parts consumed. Maintains general buildings’ interior and exterior, plumbing and overhead dock doors.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Troubleshoots mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical breakdowns, makes timely repairs to minimize and/or and prevent re-occurrences

Diagnosis sources of potential problems and takes action so as to prevent breakdowns

Performs preventive maintenance activities to minimize un-planned downtime of machinery and equipment
Maintains an inventory of critical spare parts so as to maximize machinery and equipment uptime -
Recommends repairs/replacement to machinery, support equipment, buildings and grounds

Maintains a group of contacts and subcontractors who are available, on short notice, to assist with more specialized, technical and/or emergency situations.

Using electrical diagrams (or tracing wires) analyzes and repairs electrical control circuits

Interprets programmable logic controllers (PLC) logic and uses the information and knowledge to diagnose and repair control problems

Maintains building interiors and exteriors including exterior grounds, i.e., landscaping, snow removal, parking lots, etc.

Supervises maintenance, janitorial staff and subcontracted office cleaning staff

Interacts and effectively communicates, both verbally and in writing, with plant and office personnel in a professional, respectful and business-like manner
Experience
-
5 – 10 years previous Maintenance experience

Familiar with metal fabrication machinery and equipment, i.e., stamping presses, feeders, un-coilers, roll formers, rivet machines, resistance welders, press brakes, etc.

Ability to read drawings, circuit diagrams and PLC logic programs

Familiar with email, Internet search engines and basic computer operations

Ability to speak Spanish a real plus
Education
Minimum high school graduate (or GED certificate); prefer post secondary education/training, i.e., apprentice/journeyman, Associates degree in electro-mechanical technologies, etc.
