Manufacturing Engineer Manager

SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager position is responsible for implementing lean manufacturing principals across the companys facilities. The person is also responsible for the development of lean, highly efficient, world class manufacturing processes, developing new factories and layouts, and driving continuous improvement in areas of cost, quality, safety, lead time, and use of working capital

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead teams to develop safe, lean, highly efficient, world class manufacturing processes
  • Support all company facility manufacturing teams to implement common manufacturing processes and share best practices
  • Development/execution of project planning of significant projects at the various company sites
  • Evaluate tools and equipment options that will reduce cost in the operation
  • Seek approval for investments in machinery, equipment, and buildings (new and/or modified) to include building construction that will improve manufacturing/assembly operations
  • Work in conjunction with product teams, production control, purchasing, manufacturing and other departments to optimize factory efficiency in support of lean operations
  • Implement and support lean manufacturing principles such as visual controls, pull inventory systems, workplace organization, and continuous improvement
  • Provide manufacturing technical support for production operations, which includes tooling, fixturing and process troubleshooting utilizing new and existing systems and procedures
  • Support lean events
  • Drive continuous improvement and eliminate waste in all manufacturing facilities
  • Assist with plant layouts
  • Develop, implement, and maintain processes, procedures, and programs to improve safety, productivity, and profitability
  • Provide management with project status updates, feedback, and appropriate reporting on selected projects through the project tracking system and management/project reviews
  • Lead, communicate, and coach to cultivate a motivated associate environment of trust, teamwork, accountability, self-confidence, and business ownership
  • Drive improvements in quality, warranty, master scheduling and continuous improvement/safety process systems that drive the companys business strategy
  • Supports with other leaders appropriate organizational changes and interventions
  • Actively lead teams and provide individual contribution in problem solving efforts on selected projects to improve quality, reduce cost and improve cycle time, scrap, rework, etc.
  • Prepare all required reports and correspondence
  • Develop, implement, and monitor project budgets and manages expenses within approved budget constraints
  • Identify, document, and implement opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Stay up to date on overall activities of the team, identify problem areas and take corrective actions
  • Communicate with and assist cross-functional teams (engineering, materials, purchasing, sales, etcetera) to resolve issues
  • Other tasks as assigned



QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical / Manufacturing / Industrial Engineering (Masters degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years related experience, including at least three years as an operations leader
  • Experience managing a P&L and understanding the impact of lean manufacturing tools on the P&L
  • Experience across several functions of the value stream (sales, engineering, purchasing, manufacturing)
  • Leadership Talent: Demonstrates emotional competence, presence, energy, passion, edge, humility, adaptability; Be a negotiator and influencer; Effectively work in a matrixed organization
  • Experience working with a low volume/high variation manufacturing operation and in a Toyota Production System type environment, or equivalent, preferred
  • Knowledge of CNC machining, fabrication, paint, assembly, construction, and lean
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated with the ability to stay on task
  • Innovative team player
  • Intermediate computer skills are required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and computer aided design systems (SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred)
  • Sound judgment with the ability to make timely, and sometimes difficult, decisions
  • Versatile, flexible, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities
  • Able to function in a collaborative environment, using solid teamwork and interpersonal skills; Able to communicate and persuade internal customers, employees, and management at all levels and thrive in a cross-functional environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to bring the benefits of DMAIC and DFSS to solve business issues while also managing costs and risk.
  • Ability to communicate with and understand the needs of non-technical internal customers
  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal)
  • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart information to a range of customers
