Controls Engineer – 2nd Shift

Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:00 PM (Monday–Friday)

Shift Structure: 4x10 hr schedule with overtime on Fridays (4:00 PM – 10:30 PM)

On-site in Portage, MI

Must be able to work on a W2

12 month contract

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to support 2nd shift manufacturing operations. This role involves troubleshooting electrical and PLC systems, leading automation projects, and supporting production equipment to improve efficiency and reliability. The Controls Engineer will work with cross-functional teams and vendors while mentoring others in electrical controls and machine design.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for equipment related to electrical, control, and PLC subsystems.
  • Troubleshoot complex manual, semi-automated, and automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Lead small/medium projects, including machine automation, PLC control, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Support equipment purchases per established standards for electrical and control systems.
  • Collaborate with vendors on tooling and process improvements.
  • Mentor specialists, engineers, and technicians in electrical controls and machine design.
  • Partner with maintenance and engineering teams to resolve equipment and process issues.
  • Program PLC-controlled equipment for fabrication, assembly, finishing, and manufacturing.
  • Assist in validation activities, equipment qualifications, and production part approval.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required (Electrical or Computer Engineering ).
  • 6+ years of related experience in manufacturing controls, programming, or electrical engineering.
  • Mechanical, electrical, and P&ID documentation experience required.
  • Direct experience with PLC programming, troubleshooting, debugging, and maintenance.
  • Industrial Automation Application/Software knowledge required.
  • Rockwell Automation software knowledge highly .
