Manufacturing Automation Engineer

Milford CT

FT/Monday-Friday Onsite

$115,000 Annually based on experience

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must have: Solid knowledge of PLC logic and programming

Design and build machinery control systems including pneumatic and electrical controls and control circuits for the automation of industrial tasks.

Develops new and modifies existing PLC or HMI applications, interfaces, or embedded controls.

Confers with vendors in order to determine specifications of products and arrange equipment, material purchases, and parts.

Identifies opportunities and implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards or product design, materials and parts.

Reads and interprets technical drawings. Creates and releases to manufacturing all technical drawings associated with new products, product modifications, tooling/fixturing, or manufacturing equipment. Communicates manufacturing capabilities.

Participate in cross-functional project teams with product design, marketing, sales, materials, operations, quality/business systems, etc.

Provides technical expertise and support related to manufacturing.

Requirements:

  • BS in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years’ experience in the design, implementation and automation of manufacturing equipment and processes
  • Experience with machinery control systems including pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical controls and tooling
  • Solid knowledge of PLC logic and programming. Knowledge of C# programming , a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking and troubleshooting skills to handle complex issues
  • Knowledge of the concepts of Quality Management Practices, Design of Experiments (DOE), and Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/DFA).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of machine shop practices, automatic assembly, welding and industry-accepted drawing practices, including geometric tolerances.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong computer and SolidWorks skills
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements for implementation of safeties in manufacturing equipment
  • Strong background and knowledge of manufacturing “best practices” including an understanding of location appropriate levels of automation taking into consideration international location labor rates, and skill sets.
  • Knowledge and vision of the long-term approach to global standardization of equipment.

Physical Requirements:

· Standing and walking at least 7hrs/day

· Ability to carry and lift weight up to 25lbs

· Bending, squatting, reaching, pushing, and pulling required (At least 2hrs/day)

· Use of hands for fine dexterity, light and strong grasping (At least 7hrs/day)
