Purpose
The Software Engineering Manager is a mid-level leader for their Client Applications software engineering team. This role exists to provide high-level technical and strategic guidance, ensure alignment with business goals, and foster the growth and development of the engineering team. This role is significant because it translates organizational strategy into team execution, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality software solutions while building a collaborative and inclusive team environment.
We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to guide the strategic direction of their team and lead the development of a high-performing team.
Position Responsibilities
- Strategic Direction and Technical Guidance: Oversee the strategic direction for the team, working with team leaders and organizational leadership to ensure alignment with business and organizational goals. Provide high-level guidance to the team, acting as an advocate for best practices and a champion for established team patterns. Success is defined by the team strategy effectively meeting organizational goals and the adoption of defined best practices.
- Team Leadership and Development: Lead efforts to recruit and onboard new team members, ensuring a smooth transition into their roles and efficient productivity. Implement a structured approach to performance evaluations, focusing on growth, development, recognition, and retention of team members, adhering to organizational policies. Success is measured by team composition supporting current and future organizational needs, and effective talent management leading to high retention and growth.
- Process Improvement and Prioritization: Lead the creation, advocacy, and continuous improvement of team policies and standard operating procedures, ensuring they evolve with the team's needs. Ensure the team is effectively prioritized and engaged on tasks that align with the strategic direction of software development and delivery. Success involves documented, up-to-date policies and clear team prioritization aligning with strategic objectives.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and leadership, ensuring alignment between teams and the broader organization. Coordinate between the team and other departments, fostering cross-functional partnerships and ensuring team principles are integrated into all aspects of software development and delivery. Success includes seamless technical integration across the organization and robust inter-departmental relationships.
- Mentorship: Mentor junior team members through individual partnership and maintenance of team documentation.
- Capacity Planning: Work with organizational leaders to forecast and plan for team capacity needs, aligning resources with delivery workstreams, team strategies, and organizational goals. Success is seen in the professional growth of junior members and accurate resource planning against organizational delivery needs.
- Some (50%) Hands-On Engineering: This role is not expected to do full-time development, but at the current team size, there will be an expectation that this role will be able to contribute to work product, whether through PR reviews, direct coding, and tooling improvements.

- Travel is not a core requirement for this role, but limited travel (<10%) may be required for internal meetings or industry events.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in hands-on software engineering
- 3+ years of experience in leadership, demonstrating the ability to provide high-level organizational guidance and oversee team performance.
- Expertise with Dart and Flutter framework.
- Experience with internal support collaboration, such as being part of an internal customer support escalation chain.
- Education or equivalent experience that supports effective communication and critical, strategic thinking.
- Expertise in software best practices, architecture patterns, and collaborative leadership processes.
- Qualities and traits including strong communication skills, the ability to lead by example in collaborative processes, a commitment to diversity, equity, and , and the ability to think strategically about team capacity and team alignment with organizational goals.
