Blackwood is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a distributed team of solution engineers with coaching, mentoring, and day-to-day management. Beyond an intimate understanding of technology, this individual must be an excellent mentor and someone our existing engineering team would be interested in working for. It requires displaying skills that the team seeks to emulate, being engaged, consistently providing constructive feedback, and routinely demonstrating that they are fully committed to growth of individuals on the team.

While this is not a traditional player/coach role, you are expected to work alongside your engineers—providing hands-on guidance to support both their professional development and active sales cycles.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Team Leadership: Collaborate with the Engineering Director and CTO to then tactically execute company objectives. Coordinate with engineers, sales teams/leadership, and customers relating to active sales opportunities. Promote team cohesion and continuous improvement across the directly managed and broader engineering team.
  • Sales Team Collaboration: This position advances both Blackwood’s and our customers’ success by ensuring engineering readiness and excellence. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering leadership and sales teams to drive business objectives and outcomes.
  • Engineer Development: Ensure engineers are trained and certified based on identified company technical need and opportunity requirements. More broadly, develop and coach individual engineers in their personal growth, knowledge/skill objectives as well as sales & business acumen. Act as an advocate for your engineer’s needs and growth.
  • Engineering Team Support: Operate as an SME overlay or senior resource the Engineering team might leverage to gain particular cyber domain knowledge, assist in ongoing customer interaction, and general deal development.
  • Individual Technical Knowledge: Maintain, grow, and attain new knowledge and technical certifications as they relate to Blackwood’s practice areas and shifts in the cybersecurity landscape.

Required Qualifications

  • Willingness to permit a background check prior to Employment
  • Willingness and Ability to learn new COTS Technologies
  • Significant experience and demonstrable success in at least one presales cybersecurity engineering role (or cybersecurity related domain)
  • Ability to articulate security concepts to a variety of technical/non-technical audiences
  • Strong understanding of the sales cycle and how presales engineering contributes to customer success
  • Excellent Presentation and Written Communication Skills
  • Reasonable sense of humor
  • Strong Time Management Skills
  • Passion to Hustle and Have fun
  • Ability to support 30% travel
  • Strong knowledge across one or more cybersecurity domains: network security, endpoint protection, cloud security, and access management, data protection, incident response.

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior successful presales engineering managerial experience
  • Expert/significant experience with one or more technologies on our line card
  • Ability to articulate security concepts to a variety of audiences
  • Collaborative Work Methodology to include Sales, Engineering, and PMO
  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience
