Job DescriptionJob Description Lead the craft. Grow people. Elevate manufacturing.

At Ellison Technologies, we help North American manufacturers outperform through advanced machining and automation. For 70+ years, our independent regional offices have combined scale with local agility to deliver results that boost performance, productivity, and growth.

As the Manager, CNC Applications Engineering & Process Optimization, you will guide an Applications Engineering team (initially five direct reports) while partnering directly with customers to unlock better throughput, tighter quality, and lower per-part costs—whether it’s a single machine tool, a complex multi-process platform, or a fully integrated robotic cell.

A day in the life

Morning in Warrenville: you review a teammate’s cycle-time model for a new 5-axis job, then jump on a call with an aerospace shop to refine fixturing. After lunch, you coach on CAM strategies and post adjustments for a machining center, align with Sales on a proposal, and sync with our project management team on a turnkey timeline. You finish by scheduling a customer training session and confirming a live demo for an upcoming trade show.

What you will lead and deliver

  • Build, mentor, and manage the Applications Engineering team; cultivate a followership culture and hands-on coaching cadence.
  • Translate the voice of the customer into AE capabilities that differentiate Ellison and amplify our sales process.
  • Institutionalize continuous improvement via seminars, structured training, and on-the-job learning.
  • Oversee development of machining processes and accurate cycle-time estimates.
  • Own turnkey systems execution, partnering with our PM organization on major programs.
  • Contribute to practical fixture and tooling design decisions.
  • Generate clear reports for management and project stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Service and Sales to consistently exceed customer expectations.
  • Create and manage revenue streams tied to engineering activities.
  • Plan and deliver training for customers and Ellison engineers.
  • Provide technical support remotely and on-site; manage key customer relationships.
  • Coordinate machine demos both in our facilities and at trade shows.
  • Strengthen relationships with builders, suppliers, and vendors.
  • Evaluate, use, and recommend CAD/CAM software solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer issues and support requests.
  • Lean in on related responsibilities as needed to get the job done.

What you bring

  • Leader first: you’re energized by coaching, developing, and enabling a team.
  • Hands-on technical breadth and the ability to teach what you know.
  • Fluency programming CNC lathes and machining centers, plus strong experience with 5-axis machining.
  • Bias for action, exceptional attention to detail, and a drive to improve customers’ operations.

Where you will work

Base location: Indianapolis, IN or Warrenville, IL. Overnight travel: typically less than 50%.
