DEPARTMENT: Maintenance & Operations

SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to conduct maintenance activities in and around the Rockwall County Law Enforcement Center. This is accomplished by performing manual labor such as electrical work, plumbing, HVAC/Heating repairs and general maintenance.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Installs, replaces and repairs light fixtures, ballasts and bulbs; installs electrical switches, breakers and plugs; runs wire and moves electrical components as needed; services electrical panels as needed; assists outside vendors.
  • Performs plumbing related duties such as installation and repair of toilets, sinks and faucets; unclogs plumbing drains; replaces sprinkler heads on irrigation.
  • Performs maintenance on HVAC and heating equipment such as filter replacement and cleaning fan coils; replaces belts and pulleys.
  • Conducts general maintenance such as painting; carpentry; installation and repair of flooring, walls and doors.
  • Provides assistance with employee and departmental moves and expansions; installs, dismantles and moves office furniture; provides set-up and tear down for meetings and special events; transports boxes to storage.
  • Repairs automated detention doors and equipment
  • Responds to emergency situations as necessary such as electrical outages, water leaks, HVAC outages and alarms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


SUPERVISORY/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES:

In the absence of the Sr. Maintenance Technician, this position will assume some supervisory responsibilities. No budgetary responsibilities, though may be asked for input on certain aspects of the departmental budget.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Capable of working with sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to operate drills, saws, lifts, grinders, lawn mowers, tractors, electrical meters, vacuum pumps, recovery machines, HVAC gauges and scaffolding.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC and heating units.
  • Ability to repair plumbing leaks and carpentry skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to communicate well with others


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
  • EPA 608 Certification or ability to obtain


WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position works in an office, warehouse, shop, vehicle and outdoors primarily in a detention facility. There is occasional exposure to environmental factors, however physical hazards occur daily. Health and safety conditions are low. Protective equipment includes back belt, hard hat, safety glasses and gloves. Standing, fine dexterity, walking, reaching, handling, vision, balancing, bending, hearing, twisting and talking are constantly required. Occasionally, lifting, carrying, sitting, pushing, pulling, and crouching are required.


Schedule:

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (10 hour shifts). On-call is on a rotation basis with other department employees but could be called upon in emergencies.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
