Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Shift: 2nd Shift (M-F, 8 AM to 6 PM)
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Pay: $25-30/hr. based on candidate experience
Job Summary:
Our client is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to join their Grand Rapids production team. This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial equipment used in steel processing operations, including slitting, blanking, and shearing lines. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production machinery including slitters, levelers, shears, blanking lines, and coil handling systems.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues on production and facility equipment.
- Maintain and service motors, gearboxes, rollers, bearings, and conveyors to ensure reliable operation.
- Assist with installation, alignment, and setup of new or rebuilt machinery.
- Perform facility maintenance on compressors, cranes, lighting, and HVAC systems as needed.
- Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, parts used, and equipment performance.
- Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout and PPE requirements, to maintain a safe work environment.
- Collaborate with production teams to minimize downtime and support continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in industrial maintenance or machine repair (steel or heavy manufacturing ).
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills; experience with hydraulics and pneumatics required.
- Basic electrical knowledge, including reading schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Ability to weld, fabricate, or machine replacement parts a plus.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work safely around heavy machinery.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade training .
