Position Information:
NWHSU is looking for a dedicated Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities Team. In this vital role, you'll help ensure our beautiful campus - inside and out - stays safe, functional, and welcoming for all.
As a Maintenance Technician, you'll perform a wide variety of building maintenance, repair, and operational tasks, including inspecting, maintaining, and repairing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. You'll also complete general building repairs, assist with event setups, maintain campus interiors and exteriors, and support snow removal and grounds maintenance.
The ideal candidate brings a working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general building systems, along with a proactive approach to problem-solving and works well both independently and collaboratively as part of our Facilities Team.
This role offers interested candidates the opportunity to earn a boilers license and, in time take on responsibility for maintaining NWHSU's boiler systems.
This is a full-time, benefits eligible opportunity working Monday-Friday. Typical start times range between 5:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., with end times between 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required based on business needs.
Work Location: Bloomington, MN in person
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect building and grounds to determine nature and extent of repairs or maintenance needed
- Perform routine maintenance and repair of building systems including HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, air handlers
- Change filters, belts, light bulbs and other consumables to ensure equipment and facilities remain in optimal condition
- Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner
- Assist with facility improvements and special projects as needed
- Operate and tests safety and emergency systems
- Perform light carpentry, painting, drywall repair, replacing ceiling tile, etc.
- Perform minor electrical repairs
- Perform minor plumbing repairs
- Assist in maintaining the exterior and interior of the building
- Assist with groundskeeping tasks including snow removal, lawncare and irrigation systems
- Assist with set up and tear down for events including tables, chairs and clean up
- Other duties and projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid drivers license
- 1-3 years experience in general building maintenance
- Eligible to sit for Boiler Operator certification exam within 6 months
- Ability to lift and/or navigate a minimum of 50 pounds
- Ability to communicate with faculty, staff, students and visitors (This requires common courtesy, tact and empathy)
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to work effectively alone or in a team environment
- Attendance and reliability
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills
- Promote and support a safe and healthy working environment, minimizing hazards and risks
Qualifications:
- Current Boiler Operator certification (Special, 2nd Class, 1st Class, Chief)
- Knowledge of building maintenance including HVAC, plumbing, and energy management systems

Compensation: $23.49 - $29.37 hourly (general maintenance role). Candidates possessing a boiler operator license (Special, 2nd Class, 1st Class, or Chief) may be eligible for an enhanced pay range.
The hiring rate is determined by a combination of education, related professional experience, and internal equity considerations and may exceed the posted range. NWHSU is committed to fair and equitable pay practices and does not base compensation decisions on or any other protected status.
